Assistant Professor – Cognitive Neuroscience - Texas Tech University
Position Description:
The Department of Psychological Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track, Assistant Professor position to begin September 1, 2025 in Cognition and Cognitive Neuroscience. Competitive candidates will have expertise in conducting basic human-subjects research in fundamental areas of cognition and cognitive neuroscience, including learning, memory, language, attention, perception, and/or decision-making. Research methodologies are open and can include (but are not limited to) EEG, TMS, fNIRS, fMRI, psychophysics, and behavioral assessments. Preference will be given to research programs that include (1) computational modeling of human cognitive and/or neural processes in conjunction with other experimental methodologies, and (2) relevance to human health, well-being, and/or adaptive processing. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct independent, productive, and programmatic research, compete for extramural research funding, teach undergraduate and graduate psychology courses, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and provide service to the department, college, university, and profession.

About the Department/School/Area:
Texas Tech University’s Department of Psychological Sciences (http://www.depts.ttu.edu/psy/) has doctoral programs in Clinical Psychology (APA accredited), Counseling Psychology (APA accredited), Cognition and Cognitive Neuroscience, Human Factors Psychology (HFES accredited), and Social Psychology. We currently have 29 full‐time tenured and tenure‐track faculty members, 5 full‐time teaching‐track faculty members, 125+ graduate students, 1,500+ undergraduate majors, our own building with office, laboratory, and classroom space, and a newly renovated Psychology Clinic. Faculty have an excellent track record of applying for and obtaining external research funding. Our research programs encompass departmental, campus, community, and national/international collaborations. We have effective working relationships with faculty across campus, Texa Tech Health Sciences Center, large area hospitals, numerous clinics and psychological-service agencies, and other multidisciplinary groups in the region.

Major/Essential Functions:
At Texas Tech University, the Professor of Practice title is used to recruit individuals with exceptional backgrounds and achievements in academic, business, government, or other professional practice. Primary responsibilities normally will be to teach in an area of expertise, mentor students in professional and career preparation, and liaise with professional contacts and entities on behalf of the department or program. Primary responsibilities specific to this position include: 1) Supervise doctoral practicum students within the Psychology Clinic; 2) Assist the Psychology Clinic Director with administration of the Clinic; and 3) Engage in service to the department, college, and university. For consideration of the Associate rank: 5 full years of post-graduate practice as a psychologist. In line with TTU’s strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.
Required Qualifications:
1. Ph.D. in psychology, neuroscience, or cognitive science
2. Candidates must have a record of research productivity (including, but not limited to,
publications, book chapters, and/or grant submissions)
3. Candidates must provide evidence of a commitment to teaching excellence (including,
but not limited to, experience teaching or assisting in a classroom or mentoring
students)
Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications
are strongly encouraged to apply:
1. Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in cognitive neuroscience
2. Ability to conduct basic and/or applied research in areas of fundamental human
cognition and cognitive neuroscience
3. Ability to employ computational models of human cognitive and/or neural processes in
conjunction with other experimental methodologies
4. Ability to conduct research with relevance to human health, well-being, and/or adaptive
processing
5. Ability to compete for extramural research funding
