Detailed Job Description
The Associate Dean of Research (ADR) must be an accomplished scholar with a record of extramurally-funded research. The ADR must have experience in administration or personnel management. The ADR leads the Office of the Associate Dean of Research (OADR) and its staff which provides pre- and post-award support to the NTID faculty and engages in other activities to further the research enterprise at NTID. The ADR works with the President, the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and the OADR staff to advance research preparedness and productivity at NTID. The ADR is active in research-related policy and other matters at the broader university level. The ADR is active in pursuing their own extramurally funded research agenda. The ADR serves as a member of the president’s leadership team. The ADR is responsible for administering start up packages for new TT faculty.
Primary Areas of Responsibility:
Serve as NTID’s leader and main point of contact for all research-related issues facing the college.
Supervise and closely collaborate with the Senior Director of Research Development (SDRD) in carrying out the OADR mission to provide superior pre- and post-award support to researchers and other scholars at NTID.
Supervise NTID Center Directors (in collaboration with their home departments) as well as faculty with “research” appointments.
Pursue your own research agenda, supported primarily through extramural grants.
Guide and assist the SDRD in implementing strategies to expand NTID’s portfolio of extramural funding from federal and state governments, corporations and foundations.
Work with NTID research center directors, the SDRD, the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, and department chairs to facilitate research activity across the college, including strategic as well as discipline-based research.
Advance the research preparedness and productivity of NTID faculty through the initiation and continuation of mentorship programs, continuing education activities, and by championing policies and procedures that facilitate research and other forms of scholarship.
Utilize the fiscal resources of the OADR to facilitate research activity and productivity at NTID.
Provide leadership implementing NTID’s strategic plans regarding research and scholarship.
Work with the RIT Vice President for Research and the SDRD to coordinate NTID research efforts with the broader university research agenda and associated policies and procedures.
Guide and assist the SDRD to prepare research-related reports for NTID, the university, the U.S. Department of Education, funders, and other stakeholders as needed.
Determine and oversee the research-related usage of Rosica Hall.
Negotiate “start-up” packages with faculty who are newly hired or transitioned to tenure-track positions.
Serve on relevant committees at NTID and at the broader university level.
Complete additional assignments as directed by the NTID president.

Required Minimum Qualifications
Earned doctoral degree.
Distinguished record of sponsored research
Evidence of student involvement in scholarship.
Multiple experiences as a principal investigator on extramurally funded research projects.
Thorough knowledge of a variety of funding sources (government, corporate and private foundations).
Administrative, management or related leadership experience.
Fluency in American Sign Language
Demonstrated commitment to contributing to RIT’s core values, honor code and statement of diversity and inclusion.
