Post-Bacc Lab Manager/Researcher Position

The Conflict and Mindset Collaboratory (PI: Dr. Franki Kung) and the Choice, Inequality, and Policy Lab (PI: Dr. Nate Cheek) in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Purdue University are seeking to hire a full-time joint Lab Manager/Researcher. The position will begin in the summer of 2023 for a one-year commitment with the possibility of renewal for a second year. This position offers opportunities for substantial research experience (e.g., co-authorship on posters and manuscripts, conference travel) and would be ideal for someone motivated to pursue graduate studies in psychology (e.g., Social, Industrial-Organizational) and/or Organizational Behavior.

Primary responsibilities include supervising undergraduate research assistants, programming surveys on Qualtrics, collecting and processing data, assisting with grant and IRB proposals, conducting literature reviews, and editing manuscripts. The lab manager will be involved in NSF and USDA-funded projects on cultural mindsets in STEM, promoting employees’ mental health, and conflict management in rural businesses, and additional ongoing projects related to multiple goal pursuit and self-regulation, conflict resolution, and cultural diversity (see CMC lab website: https://conflictmindset.org/research). The lab manager will also have the opportunity to contribute to research on workplace discrimination (e.g., sexual harassment), perceptions and realities of living in poverty, and judgment and decision making (see CHIP lab website: https://natecheek.com/research/). In addition, the lab manager will have opportunities for independent research and learn from other members of Purdue’s vibrant Psychological Sciences community, as well as benefiting from interdisciplinary scholarly activities through one of the PIs’ involvements as the director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion of the department and co-director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Science Consortium of the college.

Requirements

Ideal candidates would have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in psychology or a closely related field (e.g., management, neuroscience, sociology), research experience in an experimental psychology lab, and experience working with and managing others. The candidate must have strong organizational and communication skills. The candidate should be self-motivated, proactive, and able to work both independently and collaboratively. Strong computer skills and programming abilities (e.g., Microsoft Office, SPSS/R, Qualtrics) will be a great asset but are not required.
