Job Summary
This is a two-year limited term appointment. Continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funds.
Assists researchers in planning, maintaining or completing research programs and/or projects involved in the discovery of new knowledge, techniques, and concepts which require fundamental scientific/research knowledge, skills and abilities following relevant policies, procedures, regulations and laws.
The lab’s research focuses on understanding brain processes associated with social, affective, and moral decision making. We’re particularly interested in how these neural processes relate to problem behaviors and psychopathology, such as substance use and criminal behavior. The lab uses techniques such as fMRI and TMS.
Currently, the lab is funded by NIH to examine a TMS and neurofeedback intervention for Alcohol Use Disorder, particularly in terms of negative social outcomes.
Essential Functions
Assists in the development of project proposals, plans and protocols. Conducts routine or fundamental experiments, investigations and/or studies related to programs and projects in pursuit of new knowledge, techniques and concepts. Assists with logistical considerations to include equipment, materials, and labor needs. Collects data/samples related to others’ research and in routine cases. Records, compiles, processes and analyzes data/samples. Documents results and observations in writing as well as presenting results to others. May assist in the preparation of research results for publication or presentation at conferences to include assisting in literature reviews and assisting in the writing of results and discussions. May instruct students and/or supervise others’ research in area of expertise.
Minimum Education and Experience
Education Level
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
Field of Study
Psychology, Neuroscience or closely related field
Years of Experience
Level I - no previous experience
Area of Experience
Experience in research practices and protocols
Previous research experience and/or experience in administrative settings
Undergraduate volunteer experiences are acceptable to meet this requirement
Requirements for Additional Job Levels
Level II requires Bachelor’s Degree with two years of experience

At least 2 semesters of research experience, or equivalent
Experience with any/all of the following: clinical populations; statistics; neuroimaging (particularly fMRI or TMS)
Knowledge of other software/programs used by the lab (Microsoft Office/Word/Teams, Endnote, Qualtrics, R, Box, PsychoPy, AFNI, SPM, FSL etc.)
Enthusiasm for the lab’s research topics
