Seeking Postdoctoral Associates and Junior Specialist

Cognition in Context Lab

Department of Psychology and Center for Mind and Brain

University of California, Davis

1) Executive Function, Math, and Equity Postdoctoral Position: We are seeking to hire a postdoctoral researcher to work on a project called Spark Math: Igniting the Next Generation of Powerful Learners. This project will develop a comprehensive system of supports for sixth grade mathematics instruction for students from historically disenfranchised groups. This work integrates executive function activities, math concepts, inclusive design, educational technology, and learning game development. The postdoctoral associate will work with Professors Yuko Munakata (UC Davis), Priti Shah and Jamaal Matthews (University of Michigan), and Ben Katz (Virginia Tech), as well as with the project's broader team of educators and developers. Responsibilities may include project development and management, mentorship of research assistants, and dissemination of findings. Applicants should have a PhD in Psychology, Education, or related field by the start date and expertise in executive function, learning, and/or inclusive design. The position is for up to two years and preferred start date is August 1, 2021. Interested individuals should send a CV, letter of interest, representative publications, statement of contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and contact information for three references to ymunakata@ucdavis.edu. Review of applications will begin late February 2021 and continue until the position is filled.

2) Cognitive Control Postdoctoral Position: Professor Yuko Munakata is seeking to hire a postdoctoral researcher interested in studying the development of cognitive control, with a particular interest in the mechanisms that support inhibitory control over actions, the temporal dynamics of cognitive control, and the adaptive coordination of distinct modes of cognitive control. Work in the Cognition in Context Lab investigates these issues through behavioral studies (including pupillometry) with children and adults and through ERP studies and neural network models. The position is for up to two years. Start date is flexible in 2021. Interested individuals should send a CV, letter of interest, representative publications, statement of contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and contact information for three references to ymunakata@ucdavis.edu. Review of applications will begin late February 2021.

3) Junior Specialist: The Junior Specialist will work closely with Professor Yuko Munakata and the lab group to support and participate in all aspects of the lab's research on executive function and development. The Junior Specialist will collaborate with the PI, postdocs, and graduate students to develop new experimental designs and procedures, test participants, analyze and interpret data, and disseminate results; prepare and maintain IRB protocols; and train and mentor undergraduate students. The position is for up to 2 years with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding. Preferred start is August 2021. Additional information and instructions for applying are available here: https://recruit.ucdavis.edu/JPF03903. Review of applications will begin March 9, 2021.
