Postdoctoral Fellowship Position- Bolding Lab, Monell Chemical Senses Center
The Monell Chemical Senses Center, founded in 1968, is the world’s first nonprofit scientific institute devoted exclusively to basic research on the chemical senses: taste, smell, and chemosensory irritation. Research at Monell contributes to a wide range of scientific and practical knowledge including taste and smell loss with COVID-19 . With more than fifty Ph.D.-level scientists, the Center is making major progress toward understanding how the chemical senses function and their importance in everyday life. A full-time postdoctoral fellow position is available ASAP to contribute to a funded project examining olfactory sensory processing for social recognition in mice. The project aims to bring the systems neuroscience of olfaction into a more ethologically relevant context, advancing our understanding of naturalistic stimulus processing and odor-guided naturalistic behavior. There will be a substantial investment in understanding the role and relevance of oxytocinergic signaling in olfactory areas during social interactions. The state-of-the-art approaches used in the lab include extracellular population recording, calcium imaging, fiber photometry, optogenetic and chemogenetic perturbations, and statistical modeling of group social interactions.
The PI is active and engaged with the daily work of the lab, and there is ample opportunity to make an impact on the lab’s research trajectory and culture. Training will include support in technique development with local expertise, opportunities to attend training courses in computational and experimental techniques, preparation of funding applications, and other career development opportunities. Our institution is unique in its strong relationships with both corporate partners and local academic institutions. Expectations include rigorous standards for conduct of experiments, careful documentation of data and analysis, preparation of high-quality figures and text to communicate findings with colleagues, and presentations at professional meetings.
Qualifications
- Requirements include a Ph.D. in neuroscience, or a related area.
- Prior experience in systems neuroscience in rodent models is preferred.
- Collaboration in a team environment.
- Mentoring students and other trainees.
